“A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” – Lao Tzu
This quote certainly hits close to home, as I have come to realise that it has been a wonderful 10 years since I started my Rotary journey. A decade ago, I couldn’t imagine being where I am right now, as I was then only a proud parent attending my daughter’s Interact Club installation at SMK Assunta.
It all began with a casual interaction with Past President Chris Ng, who then referred me to Rotarian Kamaruzaman Omar (KO) who was the then Membership Director. He introduced me to Rotary in general and RCPJ in particular. The whole idea of a club dedicated to providing humanitarian services intrigued me, and I felt this was the perfect opportunity for me to finally give back to society.
The three lunch meetings I attended flew by in a breeze, and it was Past President Rupert Goldman who proposed for me to become a full-fledged member of the club. I then found myself inducted by Past President Dato’ Leong Yeng Kit, and that was how my Rotary journey began. The path I took led me to serving as the Club Secretary to PP Koh Kia Heong in RY 2012/2013 and as President for RY 2016/2017. That has to be my proudest achievement for the club, and I cherish every moment I had.
In a span of a decade, I have learnt and gained experience from all the wonderful Rotarians of the club. Many have guided me throughout my journey and I would not be where I am right now without their guidance.
I have benefited much from my Rotary experience. I hope, with all my heart, that I can continue serving the club for the years to come, as nothing is more fulfilling than being part of something bigger than myself. I hope RCPJ will continue to be a shining beacon and uphold its belief of Service Above Self.
Yours truly,
Siti Haslindah
Past President 2016/17
