PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

The 75th District Assembly for the Rotary Year 2009/10 was held from the 16th to the 19th of April in MS Garden Hotel. Hosted by the RC Kuantan with partner clubs, RC Bentong, RC Kota Bharu, RC Kuala Terengganu, RC Temerloh and RC Indera Mahkota, it was indeed a very successful PETS, TETS & SETs Training Seminar for Presidents-elect, Secretaries-elect and Treasurers-elect. 54 clubs out of 72 turned up for this seminar with the theme Enter to Learn, Go Forth to Serve. Our Club was represented. The President, President-elect and Anne Irene, Secretary-elect Margaret Soo, PDG David Ho, PDG Dato’ Dr Low Teong and PP Chris Ng were present.

There was a wide range of modules that included protocol, project planning and fund-raising, RI and District Structure, Public Relations and Ministry Liaison and the Presidents’ Role in Effective Club Administration.

There was a welcoming dinner on the evening of our arrival and it was hosted by the DGE. There was an official dinner with a royalty from Pahang. The spouses had a separate programme.

All in all, it was a successful 75th RI District 3300 Assembly. On the drive home, we were invited by the RC of Temerloh for a sumptuous lunch.

EDITORIAL
by Eric Wong
Still right after all this time. The importance of doing the right thing in the right way is nothing new to Rotarians. Now it seems the idea is catching on everywhere. The topic of ethics is popping up in front-page headlines and back-page comics. Corporations look to ethicists for guidance. But the subject doesn’t have to get complicated. It can be boiled down to a 24-word standard called the Four-Way Test. This ethical litmus was officially adopted by Rotary International in 1943, although it was conceived in 1932 by Herbert J. Taylor, a Chicago executive and past RI President. This year marks its 77th birthday, and the Four-Way Test keeps on ticking. Rotary’s gold standard of ethics builds friendships, attracts customers – and helps club members sleep at night.

The Four-Way Test

  1. Is it the TRUTH?
  2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
  3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
  4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
