President's Message

BULLETIN 49/2010 (29 June)

Speech by newly installed President Leong Yeng Kit

As I stand before you this evening in my last act, permit me to express my feelings as the President of the RCPJ. It is a mixed bag of feelings of sadness and relief. Sadness because it is going to end soon and I am going to miss the challenges of deadlines, luncheon meetings, speeches and the many obligatory functions in Rotary. Relief because I can now go back to some of the things I have planned to do. One of these is to go back to Sydney more often to see our granddaughter. More>>

Wow, President Eric, thanks for passing to me this millstone around my neck. It must be a load off your shoulders. Let me tell you this – it actually weighs more than it looks – a hint to future Presidents…I cannot recollect having being voted in as President, as I was overseas working during the last three AGMs of our club since 2007, 2008 and 2009 when I was voted in as VP, PE and President guys respectively. Does that still count or invalidate my presidency as I was voted in absentia. Well, thank you guys for this accolade of honour – to helm our beloved club through its 50th Anniversary. More>>

Next Meeting

This is the second last issue of the PeeJay Pos that I will be publishing. Next Rotary year PE Jack Lim takes over and I will assume the post of Club Treasurer. I mentioned a few issues ago that I would like to write something about the late PP Rosman Din’s contribution to the club when he was the President. So many events have taken priority over the last few weeks. More>>

THE ROTARY INTERNATIONAL EMBLEM

Rotary's early emblem was a simple wagon wheel (in motion with dust). It was designed in 1905 by Montague M. Bear, a member of the Rotary Club of Chicago who was an engraver. He designed the emblem to represent both civilization and movement. In 1922, the organization decided to create and preserve an emblem for the exclusive use of all Rotarians, and the following year, the present emblem, a gearwheel with 24 cogs and six spokes, was adopted. A keyway was added to signify the usefulness of the gearwheel.

THE ROTARY CLUB OF PETALING JAYA LOGO

Within the circle is an illustration of a factory and residential home.  This signifies that Petaling Jaya in which the Rotary Club of Petaling Jaya is located is an industrial township.  The four arrows signify Rotary's four avenues of service - Vocational Service, Club Service, Community Service and International Service.  There are five sets of four arrows emanating from the circle signifying that the Rotary Club of Petaling Jaya has five different committees to provide service to the community - Vocational Service, Club Service, Community Service, International Service and Service to New Generations.
